Rebar Corrosion Blamed For Most Construction Failures

Two Greek Scientists have published a paper in Construction and Building Materials citing the corrosion of steel rebar in concrete as the number one cause of construction deterioration. They say that current models for corrosion may over predict the service life of structures especially in corrosive environments. They found good agreement of salt spray accelerated corrosion tests on bare steel bars with results from concrete embedded steel bars
