The Cons of Ethanol
A National Research Council committee recently reported that the country's increase in production of ethanol based fuel will put a strain on the nations water resources. Increases in corn growing will also increase irrigation, pesticide and fertilizer can have a significant effect on local water supplies. The report suggest proper management techniques including the use of waste water to hydrate biofuel crops and injection of fertilizers below the soil as possible solutions. President Bush has set a goal of replacing 15% of the nations fuel with ethanol by 2017.
