MIT Incorporating Environmental Stewardship in Civil Engineering

MIT undergraduate civil engineering students are learning ways to incorporate environmentally responsible design across sub-disciplines.

Some implementations include:
  • Developing methods to reducing CO2 released from cement manufacturing (Did you know that Concrete is the second most widely "consumed" material on Earth after water?)
  • Designing mechanisms to capturing CO2 from power generating stations
  • Studying how microbial processes affect the ecosystem
